My xmark trigger has alot of side to side play in it. Is there anyway to fix this(i know buy a timney)? Also when I loosen weight screw I can turn it all the way out, and it has no effect on poundage. It is the bottom front screw? I probably will replace but i wanted to see if I could fix it right for now.

Re: rem. 700 xmark trigger

I've noticed it too myself, tried toying with it a few times (I'm no 'smith- however semi-decently mechanically inclined). Only solution I've come up with (besides buy a Timney) is to buy a Jewell.

I kid, but I've found no way to take up the side to side slop on rem's x-mark (pro) trigger.

Re: rem. 700 xmark trigger

Mine has no side to side movement... The allen screw at the top of the trigger adjusts poundage. if you screw it out the pull is lighter. though there is only a few turns worth before its just out. Maybe you turned it to far and thats why its loose? I used a trigger pull scale to set it as low as I could (about 3.75lbs) after that nothing changed.

Re: rem. 700 xmark trigger

I could be wrong but from what I have read the poundage screw is the bottom front. The top screw is recessed. Like i said i could be wrong. I got the info from here, and other websites.

Re: rem. 700 xmark trigger

The bottom screw in the front is the overtravel adjustment. The trigger pull weight is "controlled" by the screw in and at the top of the trigger. I pulled the screw all the way out and it had a negligible effect. The material that the sear and trigger are made of appears to be diecast and doesn't seem to be tweakable by stoning. Probably the best tuning on this trigger is to replace it.

damn it not what i wanted to hear. im having the same problems. the other day i felt the old style trigger and it was so crisp and light. made me realize just how much those xmarks suck. i didnt plan on replacing it now im pretty sure i will. whats the best one for the money out there?

Re: rem. 700 xmark trigger

Actually I was mistaken.....after reading the info at the link posted at one of the other trigger threads it appears the bottom front screw is also a trigger weight adjustment. So now we have 4 screws on the Xmark trigger....great. After going through my latest SPS trigger I find that the minimum weight I can get varies between 4.2 and 5.5 lb. I think the average of 10 tests was about 4.5lb and creepy. Looks like the Xmark still isn't much of a trigger so maybe a Timney. Brownells lists a single set trigger for the 700 as well and it might be worth looking into. I like the set triggers and a single set gives the best of both worlds. Heavier pull for hunting or tactical competitions where you need to move around. Lighter pull for shooting off the bench.

Good luck
