Just have a quick question as to why I see Rem bolts for sale all the time without the receivers?
What is the advantage to buying a PT&G bolt and selling the original bolt that came with the action?

Re: Rem bolt

for the most part its the work done to the bolt at Remington.lately most if not all bolts from Remingtn look like some one used a center drill to deburr the fireing pin hole.by doing this it allows the primer to give out premature pressure signs by giving big craters on the primers with low pressures.

plus you get a bolt with all the faster locking partsfor the fireing pin.instead of buying some parts you can just buy it all.

Re: Rem bolt

5R milspec,

You also have the option of ordering a bigger bolt body diameter to better fit your receiver. The bolts are ground so they are perfectly concentric. Good product and great value for all the options you get. Just my .002.

Re: Rem bolt

So, I just received a 308 SPS Tac. If after shooting it, it is not to my standard, I can have the action trued and replace the bolt for better timing and accuracy.
Is it worth the trouble, on a cost basis, or just go custom at that point?

Re: Rem bolt

for me if the rifel shoots great with all signs of pressure looking good I just run with it.my little 5R in a 223 craters like nothing else I have ever seen.but have no other pressure signs at all and shoots great.

by the time you shoot it you should know to weather what you want to do or need to do.you can all so look at it as a mind of matter kind of thing.for the most part the bolt will be good but the fireing pin hole may just crater on ya.I do not understand why Remington is lettng the bolt go out like this but they are.

to Bolt Fluter yes you are right sir.It just wasn't on the mind at the time I posted.

I agree with the "shoot it first, and see what you get" idea. Once you true your action you will need a new barrel. At that point, you just went custom.
