Rem Model 700 Receiver Hole Question

Can anyone point me towards a guide to the various Remington Model 700 receivers? Specifically, I'd like to learn about the rear, side, screw holes that some receivers have. I believe the holes were for attaching iron target sights? Which receivers have holes and which do not? Did any m40a1s not have holes? I have seen some 700P models without holes. Any info? Thanks.

All the early model 700s where drilled an tapped for receiver sights as where all the Pre-64 model 70 Winchester, and probable some of the post 64 push feeds.
