Rem tactical to a varmint Barrel

Re: Rem tactical to a varmint Barrel

Better question is what do you think is wrong with what you have. There's nothing wrong with putting a new barrel on you rifle even if it has very few rounds through it. There are even guys out there that would by your old one off you. Just a thought.

Re: Rem tactical to a varmint Barrel

I got the regular 20" SPS Tactical, replaced the stock and DBM, but I can't stand the short barrel. It's unbalanced, and too flippy for a bench gun.

I'd rather just get it rebarreled to a match barrel and be done with it.

Re: Rem tactical to a varmint Barrel

I am not an expert here... but I have the same rifle and factory barrel still in place. Proper technique will stop that barrel from flipping up, especially with a bipod. It depends on your goals. Many here are cutting down their match barrels to 20". Some are installing barrels down to 18.5" or shorter and shooting better than I could ever hope to. And by unbalanced? Do you mean barrel heavy? That is only going to get worse with a longer barrel.

Re: Rem tactical to a varmint Barrel

Installing a match barrel should show you a gain in accuracy, but length really isn't a huge concern at least in .308. That will have to do more with a match chamber, tight-bore, twist-rate, rifling choice, contour, ect. By the time you get to 30" Palma length barrels, you may be better served with a caliber change when you swap the barrel. But again... that is just my opinion.
