Hi all, I'm looking for a new barrel for my rem 700. It's a short action, and will likely be in .308 so it can be a dual purpose tactical/F-TR (or 6.5mm and I'll shoot in F-Open for fun) if I get the chance. I have a fantastic Robertson Composites Tac stock. I was looking at a Bartlein in the Rem Varmint/Sendero contour. Do you think it would be ok for competition use? It seems to be pretty close to a medium palma contour, of course it's shorter than a typical med. palma barrel.

When in competition, do you shoot strings at all? I guess my primary concern would be about it heating up when shooting something like F/TR. But even F/TR shooting isn't all that intense, especially if it's 3 shooters to a mound.

I have a rem varmint contour on my 260 comp gun. Shoot 10-20 round strings all the time.

No problem.

Some want heavier to help absorb recoil. Some lighter.

I had a 24" on a .260 and it ran fine with 20-30 round strings in 20 minutes when me and some buddies were goofing off. I did notice groups opening slighly from only about .25 MOA. I could get .5 MOA groups when cold and it would still shoot .75ish when it was too hot to grip. I think it's a prefect profile for rigidiness and weight savings.
