I'm sure I'm not the only one who get's emails from Remington... I did a quick search and didn't see a thread yet. Anyway, here's a link to Remington's 1911 R1 site: Here Nothing fancy, but the blueing looks decent. Not too sure about the "R1" script on the slide.

Well, I will say this: The slide assembly looks very clean and simple with no stupid serrations, lowered ejection port, and higher profile sights and dovetail front. Why didn't they do anything to the frame? That safety looks like shit as does the old-school spur hammer. So, it looks like they went A1 repro style on the frame, but somewhat modern on the slide.....in order to please neither the history buffs nor modern shooters. Bravo Cerberus, bravo. For their sake, I hope they at least learned from other companies and used quality parts and took the time for proper assembly. I guess they will leave the more "tacti-cool" 1911's for Bushmaster's line of 1911's (it will happen, mark my words...right here 5/6/10)

Re: Remington 1911

GOOD GRIEF!!! Another 1911 that will undoubtedly be made with a bunch of poorly built MIM parts, with very little to no attention to detail or fitting/tuning that will make the Remington-horny masses very happy and most die-hard 1911 fans sick to their stomachs.

Why on earth does Cerberus think that Remington needs a handgun line?? Hell, with the quality and complete lack of attention to detail of some Remington stuff I have seen lately, they'd be far better off letting the multitude of other companies making 1911 pistols stick to it and concentrating more on putting out quality instead of quantity!

Oh well...I guess time will tell.

Re: Remington 1911

This is nothing new.

Remington made 1911's for WWII.
I'm absolutely certain they had government contract dies and jigs from that time laying in some back corner of a warehouse...why not put them to use ?

Seriously? Crack a fucking book. Remington Rand made typewriters and was distanced from Remington arms long before they produced their Remington Rand 1911's. Remington arms would not have the old 1911 tooling. If they did, they would have sold it long ago. It's bad business to let that stuff just sit when you can sell it to companies in Brazil. And before you ask, your electric shaver is not made by the same folks that make your 870....it's the typewriter folks as well.

Even if you were right, Cerberus would not do business in this fashion. I have a much easier time seeing the purchase of a smaller company that currently makes 1911's to produce a 1911 and allowing Remington to stamp their name on it. The other (and more likely) method would be for Remington to purchases mass quantities of the cheapest MIM parts available and oversee the assembly in one or more of their current gun manufacturers in their holding (Remy, Bushy, DPMS, etc.)

Re: Remington 1911

The $700 MSRP is laughable too considering what $700 gets you in terms of a decent factory production 1911 these days.

While not exactly "traditional"...look at what you get (and how much MORE YOU GET) for the same price range for an STI Spartan. Plus...NO MIM crap!!

What a waste!

Re: Remington 1911

STIs, like every gun on the market today that is less than $3000, have MIM just like any other gun. If someone told you the STI Spartan, which is made in the Philippines, didn't have any MIM, they lied.

It is still a quality piece at a great price backed by STI in Texas, but it's not American-made like nearly all of their other guns.

Even my $1800+ STI Eagle has MIM parts.

Re: Remington 1911

I could have/should have been more clear about my post on the Spartan and MIM parts. Yes, absolutely STI uses some MIM parts. Most mfgs do these days for a variety of reasons. I have MIM parts/components in my STI Tacticals and Edge.

The quality of MIM parts, like the quality of any other types of parts, varies greatly. i.e. - Not all MIM parts are created equal! I have never seen an STI MIM part fail because of poor manufacturing, etc. However, I have seen plenty of parts on Kimbers, SA's, and others fail spectacularly. Even with STI's use of MIM parts, they don't use them on any of the critical components that are subject to heavy wear/tear/stress.

Re: Remington 1911

I don't think it's a waste of time or money....yes, it is not a high dollar 45, but it is also just the thing for guys that would like to have a old school, 45. Yes, it is the first 45 they have built since WWII, but better now than never, and this is also just the start of their new line-up. I would not just write it off as useless so fast. maybe you are ABOVE this handgun, or maybe you're not, I don't know or care, I just think it's unwise to rule it out for everyone. I personally like the leaner 45's, I'm not a high gadget fan or them nor do I want to invest a lot in one. They are fun to shoot, but nor when they cost too much that I do not want to get it scratched.
