CMP has a few 40X .22 trainers left-however they dont come with a bolt. On the reciever and the action. How expensive/possible will it be to find a bolt for one of these?

Re: Remington 40X .22 Question

You are better off trying to find a complete one unless you are looking for a project or want to spread out the invest. You will end up spending the same (maybe more depending on shipping) than if you found a complete one.

Figure $800 (barreled action included) plus your choice of stock.

Re: Remington 40X .22 Question

Here's where I'm at right now:

$350 and change for the barreled receiver. I went and picked mine up so I also had sales tax.

I spent $234 at Outback Gun Parts for the little stuff, some spares and the swivel/hand stop(detailed breakdown when it comes in).

$120 for a correct 40x stock from a hide member.

Bolt from Pacific Tool and Gauge, not sure of total because I ordered headspace gauges too, but figure $220 shipped.

So, before optics, and IF I don't have to send it out to get headspace adjusted, I'm looking at maybe $865 for a complete 40x(forgot about trigger, haven't decided yet. Maybe Jewell) I opted not to do the sight blocks and front and rear sights because this is going to become a M40A1 "trainer" I did this over a 3 week period, so I didn't have to come up with $900 or so for a complete gun all at once.

Edit to add: as stated I don't have a trigger yet. For a HSLD unit I figure $100-200.

Still waiting on parts

Hope this helps some. YMMV

Re: Remington 40X .22 Question

Update 1 on parts needed:

Got my package from Outback. List below:

#19782 bolt stop-$22.40
#15224 bolt stop spring-$9.60
#19785 ejector(feed ramp)-$34.40
#19786 ejector screw-$3.40
#16113 receiver filler piece-$12.50
#16114 receiver filler piece spring-$12.60
#Handstop w/ Swivel Bow assembly-$44.50
#Swivel Bow assembly rear(1.25")-$24.50
Plug Screw 6-48 long(6 for receiver)-$7.50 ($1.25 each)
Plug Screw 6-48(4 for barrel sight holes)-$5.00($1.25 each)

As listed there is $176.40. If you opt out of the hand stop and do some thing else for a swivel you end up at $131.90. I have yet to get a trigger and bolt, and then the fitting of bolt if necessary. I will update again when that comes to pass.

Re: Remington 40X .22 Question

I went a little different direction with mine. I too bought a CMP 40x rimfire. I bought the PTG bolt for $200. I had a Rem trigger laying in my tool box so it was called into service.
I had a short action walnut stock laying around so I hogged out the barrel channel and did a skim bedding job. I added a 20 MOA pic base and have a Vortex Viper sitting on it.

When I get around to it I will plug up the screw holes in the barrel and action that are not needed for my setup. Perhaps a synthetic stock will also find it's way to this gun. Only time will tell.

I too am starting with a stripped barreled receiver. Thanks for posting the list of part #'s needed from Outback. I'll place an order with them tomorrow. Ordered a PTG bolt today with a straight threaded bolt handle, told me 3 weeks.

Re: Remington 40X .22 Question

Where are you guys finding the barreled receivers?
