One I had shot terrible even after I redid it with 2nd action screw and bedded it. However most are excellent shooters from what I have read. Go to RFC and there are nothing but good reviews on the 581 series. Trigger is NOT adjustable but someone like Brian Voelker can remedy that issue. Sold the 2nd one I bought before ever shooting it as I had 5 541's that I wasn't shooting either
Because of their inherent accuracy the prices the last 4-5 yrs has risen to as much as $400 for a near new rig and rarely bring under $175 anymore unless you are in the right place at the right time and owner doesn't realize current market trend. Also your AO will/could make a considerable difference in current market value.

I shot mine a little today. Never had a high end .22, so I don't know what it should do at 100 yds. I love the 581, got mine at a pawn shop for $125. Cheap compared to some of the Guns out there today.
Mines threaded for a suppressor, damn quiet with subs. Through a SWR Spectre with Aguila subs, 5 shot group today was just under 2 1/2". A lot of drop at 100 yds with these subs. Thats still a dead squirrel though,,,

I have a 581 and 541T and used to have a 541S, (I'm still kicking myself for letting that one go). I have a lot more trigger time with the 541. They both shoot very well. On one of those perfect days with no wind, I shot one 5 shot group at 100 yds, with the 541S that was 5/8". But that was only one group and by far the best. I would say that the 581, with some good ammo, should hold its own. The second action screw and bedding along with a trigger job would help things a lot. Brian Voelker is great with Remington 581's and 541's. I've had him work on one for me and he did a great job!
