OK I think i'm ordering a 5R .223 tomorrow if they are in stock when i call. Question how much in-letting needs to be done if any on the 5R to add a Timney. I may want to sell the stock and upgrade if the rifle proves to be a keeper and don't want compromise the stock and resale value .

ANY INPUT on the 700 strait trigger vs curved would be great.

Jewell is bound to pop up. I'm sure they are great but truth be told I'll take a little more reliability in dirt then the best bench trigger. As long as the trigger repeats well muscle memory will do the rest.

Stock suggestions?

I like the Bell & Carlson Medalist Remington Varmint/Tactical (adjustable stock) I'm looking for a good all around stock that can shoot off hand but but one that will shine a bit more bench and prone. I know i want it all. This will be a shooter but don't want it built specifically for one style of shooting.

Re: Remington 5R .223 TIMNEY?

I don’t think there is a difference on the 5R action or floor plate compared to any of the other 700's. It should drop right in, I have use installed three on 700's and no mods were needed. I did, however, have to open up a badger DBM once. The trigger shoe was making contact with a little leg were the shoe fits and would not allow the trigger to reset.

Re: Remington 5R .223 TIMNEY?

The Timney is a drop-in replacement on the factory H-S Precision stock. Make sure the trigger is centered in the bottom metal when you re-torque the stock. Since the Timney's shoe is wider, it's possible to reassemble it with the shoe touching the bottom metal on one side. If this happens, the trigger won't reset properly.

I dropped mine right in. Some have a snug bolt release that a simple file will take care of. A timney trigger was my best investment for my 5R! Good luck!

That B&C is 5lbs, the current HS you have on it is a little over 2

Be prepared for that, or... Look at the hs tactical style stock, it is much lighter, even the fully adjustable model, I believe is 3.5- 3.11.

Weight has its benefits and its drawbacks, just analyze what you're getting into and what you really need, then pick and enjoy.

You definitely want to try before you buy on the Bell & Carlson Medalist Remington Varmint/Tactical (adjustable stock). I had the non- adjustable model and absolutely hated the forearm design. It was fine for prone or shooting off bags but not something I liked at all for supporting with your hand in the field in say, hunting type shots. I do really like the light tactical from B&C as seen here on my tactical. It weight a touch over 2 pounds.

Scoped, it weighs in at ~10.5 pounds and without, right around 9.25, if you have the 24” barrel add about a half to three quarters of a pound to that.

Re: Remington 5R .223 TIMNEY?

Thank you all ... I would love to try before i buy but where I live its a problem no stocks these locally. Obviously the stock if for later down the road the .. the timney may be an install right after break incase it has to go back for any warrenty issues.

Re: Remington 5R .223 TIMNEY?

So i lied i didnt wait on the trigger the timney is on its way too ... Now im taped ... Going to take my time with a brake in using Black hills. I went to ordered a bore guide bit Lucas was backed up for 3 months i have to wait a month just to place an order.

My Stock is picked out so if anyone in my area has the HS adjustable thumbhole and could let me feel it up please drop me a PM.

This is going to be fun I'm going to break the barrel in useing a leupold 4x rim fire. Until i can get an apeture installed or afford better optics.

Thanks for all the input i really slammed the board with questions this week.

Just go buy a Possum Hollow setup. It's 1/3 price and works great. I called Lucas back in December, and he told me to call back in march. Then in another thread some guys were talking how they were able to order in January. That ticked me off a bit, but now I'm happy I didn't waste my money.
