Remington 5R rifles...how do you determine one?

I've got a guy locally wanting to sell one, but I have no idea how to know if it's a 5R or just some SS SPS or something? Are there any markings on the barrel, etc?

And if this has been asked dozens of times, please point me in the right direction...unfortunately "5R" is too short to search for.

Thanks,

Dan

It is really that simple, take your time and count them a few times. If it has six, just walk away, that means someone is trying to bullshit you. Good luck , I have had two 5R's and both were shooters.

Stainless steel action, stainless steel varmint contour 24" barrel bead blasted so it is a "matte" or almost a "satin" finish instead of polished, in addition to the 5 grooves.

I don't believe Remington catalogs a stainless steel varmint weight barrel in the SPS. They do catalog a varmint VLS, but it is a fluted 26" barrel with a polished finish.

I agree. Since Ive bought mine, Ive done alot of research on it, and as fdkay mentions, I dont believe Rem makes a SS varmint SPS. So...
