I've been searching for a while, but this seems to be a bit out of the ordinary. I have a friend who has reached the age where he felt he should disperse some of his collection, and has asked me to help to an extent. One of the rifles is a Remington 600 in .223, which only had about 315 made. The 600 itself is not an overly valuable rifle, but with so few of the .223's made it has stepped up the value.

I've found (and advised by some) it could start at auction at $1500, but there was a sale offered on a site for $3000. That's a wide span.

Any thoughts on where i could look?

Did you find any completed auctions to get a better idea of the real price? It's rare but probably not really highly sought after. If your not in a hurry you can list it with a high reserve and see what you get. Sometimes it's hard to really lock in a price on oddball stuff because there is little to no recent history.
