I recently purchased my first 338 Lapua, cleaned her up, and began shooting. I cleaned this monster after each shot, shooting four 3 shot groups. The groups weren’t bad but they could definitely be better. I was shooting it in a led sled so recoil wasn’t an issue with the factory beak but I was considering the Badger break that GAP installs? Any thoughts?

Also, I spoke with GAP and will be sending them my rifle to have additional work done (see below) and would like to hear any thoughts on additional things you pros would recommend…

Thanks in advance…

Bed HS Precision Stock
Chamber and true the action and bolt and crown muzzle on customers rifle
Badger Ordnance 20MOA/Flat Base, Long action- installed
Badger Ordnance Tactical Bolt Knob - installed, Remington 700
Bead blast and coat with Black Cerakote, entire rifle
Trigger job – adjust trigger to 2 pounds

Re: Remington 700 338 Lapua suggestions

I used the Badger Thruster for my .338 custom on the 700 action. It works great! Really knocks down the recoil.

All the mods you mentioned are good. I am not sure what the expected performance out of box is, but if they use a hammer forged barrel, the action work alone may not give you the best performance. You may consider a match grade barrel. Consider having the bore gauged to see if it has any loose areas, before you make that decision. All the work you're having done is near that necessary for a full custom. All you need is a barrel. It would be disappointing to pass on the barrel, at this point, and not have it to its full potential

Also consider upgrading the scope base screws to 8-40 if they don't come from the factory

i would have the barrel recrowned + add badger brake the stock bedded and the trigger adjusted anything more than that and you would have been better off having a rifle custom built most guns take a bit to get broken in i know that all of the 308 rifles i have owned started shooting really well after 300 rounds or so

Your biggest bang for buck will always start with a premium barrel installed by someone who understands accurate gunmaking.

If were both racing pro stock drag cars and competitive we should be both making around 1350hp. You may be making an extra 10 by massaging every little part to perfection however you had to get to that initial 1350hp by having the good parts to start with. In a rifle that biggest initial gain is with a quality barrel fitted by a smith with a reputation for good work.

Spend your money wisely by spending it once.

Good luck on your project.
