Remington 700: are actions identical?

I've got a Remington 700 barrel and bolt that both came from a .308, and an action and lug that came off a R700 .223. I'm wondering if assembling these would require a gunsmith to go/no-go, ream, etc. in order to have a (safely) functioning .308 rifle? In other words, are the actions from the short action Remington 700s the same?

Safest bet is probably just check with a gunsmith, but I thought I'd ask here first.

^^^^Kinda like went guy walk into the shop with a AR lower and lower parts kit (no upper) and say "Can you make me a gun out of this?) ANYWAY my question to you is how you going to put the barrel on without a gunsmith. UNLESS you are one yourself and then you would not be asking the question in the first place would you. YES if you know very little about what you got and how it goes together THE SAFE thing to do is have a smith put it together for you

I think think the biggest issue you are going to run into is the feed lips on the .223 action. They are narrower than a .308 action so they will need opened up a bit if you want to have a repeater.

Thanks Varmint Slayer, good to know. I should have mentioned these will be fed through a short action DBM. I have both .308 and .223 magazines so a simple swap should be solvable.

Dawson08, I'll put the barrel on the same way I took the things off... with a barrel vise and action wrench. Fortunate to have access to a machine shop so these were easy fabs from shop scraps. But as you probably know, a pound of knowledge is worth a hundred pounds of tools, which is why I came here to learn a thing or two about short action specs and head space, etc. Happy to listen up if you happen to know something about this.

ya the bolt face is smaller on the .223 than on a .308 it will go together but your not going to beable to shoot a .308 out of it. But if your going to shoot a .223 then yes it will work. There short actions are used from 204 ruger to .308 win

Ranchhand he has a barrel and bolt from a 308. I don't know for a fact but would venture to guess you'll have headspace issues (with access to a machine shop you could adjust for this via recoil lug thickness) and/or bolt issues since you're mixing bolt/action. Again I'm no gunsmith, just my observations
