Re: Remington 700 bdl help

That's a pretty horrible picture, but it looks like Leupold bases to me. I would suggest just getting new bases to match your new rings and then you won't have any issues.

Re: Remington 700 bdl help

I would agree, looks like a leupold base. However, you would be better off to get a fresh set of bases and rings. Standard rings and bases are pretty reasonable compared to the tactical kind. If want a deal, I have a used matte finish set, but looks like your gun is glossy, still would look fine though.

Re: Remington 700 bdl help

the earliest 700s had a slight height difference on the rear bridge, but other than that, nothing different than a standard long action today. Typically they used dovetail style rings and bases, have seen a few different variations of that, but nothing like in your picture. A better picture may help, but will keep looking.

Re: Remington 700 bdl help

i already tried a set of 22 rings off of a remington 597 and they didnt work. this one has me stumped . i am really thinking about just changing the whole base. . i have another question though . my gun has the 6 digit serial number the first 2 numbers are 29 . how do i really tell how old my gun is?

Re: Remington 700 bdl help

the best way to tell the age is to find the date code on the barrel, this is only good if it has never been re-barreled but that is how they age them.

I think changing the base would be much easier, you will want to make sure you get the right height rear or a one-piece that has the proper heights, or you can also shim the rear base too.

Re: Remington 700 bdl help

the scope that was on it was a leupold . so i even tried searching bases from them and didnt find nothing. something is tellin me this gun is gonna be fun to build. iam also lookin into getting a bottom medal kit so it is clip fed instead of the bottom feed it has now

Re: Remington 700 bdl help

I can't offer any help in the ring/base department, however if my Dad gave me a rifle that he had for so long, I would definitely consider keeping it in it's current form. I would clean it up and shoot it as is. If I was wanting to change stocks and bottom metal I'd certainly pick up a newer rifle or someone elses rifle and start there. Keep that one the way it is and give it you your kids when they get older. Just my opinion...
