Hi,

I am wondering how to go about removing the bolt face and replacing it on a Remington 700 Short action 308. I want to replace this because the bolt face looks to have some slight pitting. I am not changing the caliber, I just want to replace it with a new bolt face of the same size.

Does anyone know of any videos or have any instructions on how to go about removing and replacing the bolt face?

Regards,
Kris

replacing the bolt face? or truing the bolt face? because you can't replace it (that I know of) other than replacing the whole bolt which a 1 piece bolt is 167 for a s/a its already got the bolt handle threaded, also there is a fluting option too.

If you clean up the face of the bolt, you will change the headspace and that needs to be corrected. The barrel will have to be removed and some taken off the shoulder and other areas. I could do both for yo and turn it around in less than two weeks; email me if interested:

Thanks for the replies. It looks like it was caused by some faulty primers. It is very light pitting and it does not effect performance but I would rather not have it so I want to get this fixed.

I will be sending you an email shortly Jkob60.

Thanks.

Contact GreTan he can fix you up his turnaround is very quick. He can bush the FP hole in your bolt the pitting will be removed in the process and it wont alter the headspace. He will also reduce the FP dia and fit the hole in the bushing to match. If you can get used to it just leave it be if its not affecting the performance. As mentioned you want to adress the source of the problem

It happened to me too, Winchester primers were blowing out and pitted the bolt face, I have to pull down about 500 round of stuff I had loaded this last winter and reprime. I sent an email to Winchester but never got a reply, bet I never will.
