I just picked up a cheap .223 for a donor action, I have heard I can send it to someone to ream it out and put a bigger sized bolt face and put a sako extractor on it. Is this correct? and if so any suggestions on smiths you have had do bolt work for you?

What are you wanting to make it into? You have pretty good trade bait with a .223, rather than make it into something else, just trade it for what you really want. I've paid extra in a trade to GET a .223, as it is harder to get a 223 to feed in a non-original 223 action. Less trouble than modding a 308 for instance.

Easiest thing to do if you are going to keep it, is just buy another bolt from PT&D.

The ejector is in the same place whether it be a 223, 308 or magnum. And you are in the business? The only one that is different is the bolt for the Fireball.

Damn it's good to feel the love again. I was starting to feel neglected.

I'm in the buis. of helping people. The intent of my post was to help the OP avoid a mistake.

In gumsmithing school, they had a saying. When you assume, be prepared to assume the position.

The last 223 I was asked to open up was a McMillan. It's ejector was closer to the pin. I just assumed it was an exact copy of a Rem. Color me guilty! Since I don't have a Rem handy to measure, I'll have to take your word for it. In the meantime, maybe someone else could verify and save me the trouble.

Regardless, the point is moot. Seems the decision to trade it is unanimous.
