I've had a few problems with my 700 in 260. The last match I had a few cases not eject completely....a few ended up "stove piping" if thats possible in a bolt gun.

At any rate I thought maybe it was time to replace the extractor and ejector.

Problem is I dont know how to do this or how big of a job it is.

Anyone have an opinion? Or possibly some links on how to do this?

Is the brass hitting your scope turret, mount or ring bolt? Youtube it. I think Lonewolf has an extractor video under 8541 tactical. It is very easy. Order two from Brownells and keep one with you. You can replace it in the field with a simple dental pick or small screwdriver. The plunger should be ok unless there is debri in it. Sometimes the plunger edges are sharp and shave off brass, then clog up. Put the bolt in a vise and depress the plunger with an empty case while driving out the retaining pin. Don't drive it out all the way. If you don't have a small punch then use a broken drill bit. Use eye protection. When you take it out clean the hole in the bolt and check it for burrs. Also if the plunger face is sharp then use a nail file or sharpening stone to dull it. Good luck, should be an easy fix.

If you are still having trouble and you would like to fix the problem by doing a Sako extractor job, I would highly recommend Karl at Kampfeld Customs. He bushings out the bolt nose which fills in the recess for the factory extractor, then he fits a Sako extractor to the bolt.

The work that Karl at Kampfeld Customs is top notch and he can get it done in a week or so.

Check him out.

Sako Extractor install by Kampfeld.
