Took my Remington 700 SPS Varminter in .223 out to the range yesterday. I loaded up the box magazine with some Remington UMC 45grHP and then cycled the bolt and stripped the first round into the chamber. I took my shot and then tried to open the bolt. It would rotate to a certain degree and then stop, not allowing me to continue shooting. I was eventually able to get the bolt open after dropping the floorplate and removing the remaining cartridges and using a FIRM upwards motion, almost like clearing a stuck Mosin Nagant bolt. Then I saw that the fired case was still stuck in the chamber and not coming out. The rifle has about 500 rounds through it and was freshly cleaned the day of the range trip and this is the first problem I have had with it. What has happened here and how do I go about fixing it? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Re: Remington 700 Issues

I would take a cleaning rod and see if I could knock out the case and get a look at it. Was the bolt hard at all to close on the round before you fired it?

Re: Remington 700 Issues

Buddy of mine had similiar issues. Ended up that the cases he had were older and were expanding, one even split in half.
Similiar to pressure signs. He had loaded same grains, primer, and bullets on two different batches of cases and all those cases which he had purchased years before were causing the problem.
His weapon is a 700 7mm STW.
