Does anyone know the measurements I can use to check and see if the extra base I have is flat, or if it has any MOA angle machined into it? I suspect I have a base with 20 MOA in it, but don't know for sure.

Re: Remington 700 long action scope base question

I'd measure the overall height on one of the pads at the loading port area and at the outside edge/end of the base. If the measurements are different by a couple of thousandths over the inch or two of distance, you have a tapered base.

There is definitely a difference in the height of the pads. The rear one is measurably higher. So, if I am interpreting what you are saying correctly, the front and rear bridge on the Remington actions are supposed to be the same size. Therefore the pads on the base should be the same height unless there is some MOA machined into it?

No, the rear bridge of a 700 action is shorter than the front.

Mount it on the action and see if the top of the rail is parallel with the ejection port.

Concentrate on <span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">one</span></span> pad of the base, does not matter which. Measure the overall height of <span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">the single</span></span> pad with a pair of calipers at each end of <span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">that</span></span> pad. If there is any difference in the pad's thickness, you've got a tapered base.

Re: Remington 700 long action scope base question

There appears to be about seven thousandths difference where I could measure the rear (over about 1 inch), and about nine thou on the front (about 1.25 inch), but the front has a longer surface for me to measure. Does anyone have an idea about how many MOA tilt that would be?
