So I am buying a Remington 700 long action chambered in 6xc a short action round, how much of a pain in the rear end would it be to convert it to an aics pattern mag red rifle and make it feed reliably?

why did someone do a 6XC long action? and why would you buy it? just curious
Idk why and I bought it because it’s going to be my first target rifle and it was $600 my budget was to stick under $700 and kick less than a 6.5 grendel and my shooting buddies told me that it would kick less than a grendel with 95 grain bullets so it was a perfect fit

idk if it'll recoil less. 12ish grains more powder. and i would shoot 105/108/115s from it. there isnt performance in the 95gr weightclass for target shooting

either way, neither really recoil

seems like you could have gotten into a purpose built system for what you're gonna spend making a long action 6XC work

pics/full details on it?

The reason I am trying have a rifle that recoils less is because I only have 1/8th of a shoulder socket so if I shoot something that recoils harder than a grendel I dislocated my shoulder and it’s a 20” Remington 700 with a 1 in 8 Krieger barrel on an hs precision stock. I should be at my ffl on Thursday

That’s what I am gonna pick up

The 6xc is going to kick more than a 6.5 grendel, put a brake on either and they will be tame.

As for how to make a long action a dbm to feed a short action round will involve you replacing that bottom door latch bottom metal with a drob box mag bottom metal, that could involve relieving stock material for the new one to fit, the DBMs are wider than the BDLs.

Unless you are getting an absolute steal on that frankenrifle I would look elsewhere for something that will be less labor intensive and more appropriate for your goals.

Nice looking rifle. Just my opinion I’m no gunsmith but we feed short 6br from actions way shorter than there meant to be. So I dont why you wouldn’t be able to possibly put long action bottom metal on it using a long Action mag and possibly put a spacer kit on it. Or if it feeds like it is it will probably feed from a LA mag with a little modification.

Just thinking outside of your immediate question & given your last post regarding your physical limitations.
Do you really need a magazine?
Aside from shooting rapid in xtc,I can single feed, obviously deliberate, but snap too.

I don’t have to have it but I just thought it would be a nice feature to add if it wasn’t too big of a pain but as the situation goes right now I might have to sit this season out cause I am looking at a 2nd major shoulder surgery
