I bought this rifle brand new in the box.
I cleaned it, oiled it, put a scope on it, sighted it in, found a load it shoots real well, cleaned it again, then took it hunting for a few cold rainy/misty days in the mountains this deer season.
Over the course of a few hours I watched surface rust start to appear on the barrel, action, and bolt!
Has anyone else had an experience like this with a brand new Remington like mine or other model? Or am I just stuck with a maintenance intensive rifle?

Typical for a factory Remington finish.

If this rifle is gonna see a lot of foul weather, it is time for a Cerakote finish, or simply get used to a rigorous preventative maintenance plan after each use.

I have seen minor surface rust appear on some guns since moving to FL. Humidity is a bitch. Get a safe and dehumidifiers then keep them oiled. Not much you can do...besides cerakote the barreled action.

Man, I was hoping to have someone send me a link to some super-special anti-corrosion end-all be-all gun lube that would solve my problem.
I do have the silica canister in my safe but it's in the woods that the rust appears.
Does the cerakote cost much to do?
Is it hard to do correctly?
Can it be taken off if put on incorrectly?

Don't forget to take the sling off your rifle when in the safe. I cleaned and oiled my 7mm Rem Mag after a week long hunting trip (here is Washington it rains all through hunting season). I put my rifle in the safe and didn't even think about the moisture the sling would still be holding. I ended up with all kinds of surface rust I had to clean off. Wasn't happy at all.

The joys of a "matte blued" finish. Texture helps hold moisture and bluing is really no kinda rust preventive. CLP daily in the field and a heavy dose before storage. Don't forget the bore before long term storage. Cerakote, duracote, even parkerizing beat blued.
