Remington 700 sps Varmint or Ruger M77 Hawkeye?

Hi, I have just had police approval to own and use a.243 (UK gun law being VERY different to the US) and I am considering which rifle to get. As the title suggests, I have narrowed my choices down to the Rem. 700 SPS varmint, or the Ruger M77 Hawkeye.

The rifle will be used mainly for deer (Roe/Fallow/Sika/Muntjac/CWD) and foxes, as well as some range work, and will be left handed.

I would be grateful for your opinions on which rifle would be most suitable. I am not overly worried about the looks of the rifle, I want a functioning, reliable firearm, not a piece of artwork.

I have the Remington SPS in .308 Winchester, she has been a outstanding rifle for me. The only thing I have done is upgrade the stock from the standard one that came with the rifle to a HS Precision.

Go with the Remington, a drastic amount of aftermarket products for that platform.

Don't get me wrong, I have a Ruger old M-77V in .308 that will put 10 rounds inside an inch all day, but there just aren't many aftermarket products available for the Ruger rifles.

I use a Ruger M77 Hawkeye Predator .204 with MAE Suppressor on evrything from Fallow Deer to Magpies. All one shot kills, but the Ruger scope mount system is a pain, I prefer a Picatinny rail, no detachable magazine drives me nuts and the trigger needed serious lightening up.

Go with the SPS Varmint. I have one, and I love it. Shoots sub MOA with the right ammo, even with me pulling the trigger. Replace the stock though, the old one is crap. I have an H&S on mine. The only thing I might change now is have the barrel cut down, but I might not end up doing that.

Another vote for the Rem 700. Look through the threads on here, there are hundreds of threads surrounding the SPS, and what guys have done to them!!!
