I saw a Remington 700 SS ADL at Dick's for $450. I know it has a thin barrel and blind mag. but what else would be different than an SPS. Would this be a good way to start shooting? Anyone know about these rifles?

Would make a nice hunting rifle. Just depends on your goals. If you want a heavy barrel for target and whatnot, the SPS varmints currently have a $50 rebate.

For a dedicated walking hunting rifle the ADL will get you there. Easy to bump it up to a bdl with parts found in the Options sale thread. BTW I saw an standard ADL with chro moly barrel at Wal-mart for $418.

I'd have to suggest getting an SPS, just for the shorter thicker barrel. They can be found for not too much more than that. If you want to cut some out of pocket expenses later on look at the AAC version. 1:10 twist rate and the barrel is already threaded. So if you wanted to get a muzzle brake, or a suppressor later on that's one less thing to have to worry about. The weight difference for me isnt an issue. I found a while back that the shorter stick balanced better, and carried easier for me. Just some thoughts though, in the end it's your money and only you really know what your looking for.
