Remington 700 target tactical

Re: Remington 700 target tactical

I have a XCR tac. long range .308, and no real clue on how to shoot, and can hold groups 2in at 100yds, and 3in at 200yds. Everything I have ever read, or heard is that they are tack drivers. BUT I have also read that there are good ones and bad ones, I guess the Monday and Friday guns aren't as good as the rest of the week.

Re: Remington 700 target tactical

I bought one from a friend that was barely used and shot with it for awhile. After reading almost everything on SH about shooting I became pretty descent and got some good groups after awhile, the best being somewhere over .5" 5 shot group. After being on this site for awhile I ended up selling everything but the action and I'm waiting for my rifle to be built.

I couldn't get around the shape of the barrel and it was too long for me getting in and out of the truck while hunting. The Target Tactical will shoot good IMO but unless it's everything you want, keep looking/reading on this site and your wants may change.

Re: Remington 700 target tactical

My Triangular barrel shoots well. It's a sub MOA rifle and works well during the heat. It's a VTR and I dropped it in and AICS
This group was shot yesterday. .444 MOA

Re: Remington 700 target tactical

Something to be said for round barrels.

Dissipates the heat evenly in all directions.

I'm no physicist, but I would imagine there could be some issues with a hot barrel of this configuration doing some strange things.

I get this barrel pretty hot, it does not seem to effect it at all. I shot 10 rounds though it fairly fast, the last round being at a 3.5 inch swinger @ 500 yards. I dinged it just fine.

I like the stock but frankly the VTR barrel profile is a gimmick in search of a problem.

It is a way of fluting a barrel, nothing more.

You could build the same gun yourself for a lot less, buying a standard Remington 700 from another series and a B&C stock. Hell, if you want someone else to assemble it for you and have a package ready-to-go, check out the remington entry level package at snipercentral.com

Re: Remington 700 target tactical

Save your money and get the short tactical or varmite model. I have the short tactical. Droped in a B&C A3 stock, topped it with a SS 10x42 and did some load building and it shoots on a bad day 1/3" minute of angle and on a good day round through a round. When i shoot at the long range tactical matches it keeps right up with the custom jobs topped with S&B acopes.

Re: Remington 700 target tactical

Cooling wise the triangle barrel is nice, but its not as stiff as the bull barrel. I think your choice of getting a regular barrel will be better. If you want a nice cheap beginner get a .308 I love mine and can poke it out to 1000 yards. Also ammo is pretty decent for .308 and plenty of bullet types to choose from. Then when you decide that you want more you will be ready for it.
