i have a Remington 700 sps varmint all stock.
some times when i lay my finger on the trigger it goes off it might of happen 3 times out of 40 shots
i haven't messed with the gun or anything got it last summer brand new.
it has an adjustable trigger on it but i've never messed with it.
any one know whats wrong or if there's anything i can do?

Re: Remington 700 trigger randomly firing

It is probably just the tension on your X-Mark Pro trigger is set too low...tighten the screw on the trigger face a bit, and then confirm it with dry-firing. Regardless, I'd replace it with a Jewell or a Timney, both have much better feel and reliability.

Re: Remington 700 trigger randomly firing

Haven't you watched Remington's rebuttal about their bad triggers? It's not their fault either. All sarcasm and joking aside, it's hard for me to trust those triggers and I would second the notion of replacing it with an aftermarket one like a Jewell.

Re: Remington 700 trigger randomly firing

don't have the money to do that and i love the trigger very nice to me at least

i'm gonna contact Remington and see what they say.

now i no why they say keep your finger off the trigger till your ready to shoot the first two times i was just getting the scope on the target. XD

So you know what to do and what others say and yet you didn't causing an unintended fire which at any match would be an instant disqualification. Check your bottom metal and make sure it is not connecting to the trigger in any way. I have seen these touch enough to the point of any stress on the stock from moving causes the trigger to release. Just an idea and keep your finger off the trigger unless ready to shoot. Scope on target, finger on trigger then fire, not finger on trigger, find target then “whoops”

Re: Remington 700 trigger randomly firing

I'd try cleaning and degreasing it with brake cleaner or some other aerosol. If its only doing it sometimes somethings probably slipping or sticking.

Re: Remington 700 trigger randomly firing

Get some lighter fluid and clean the trigger group. Just squirt in in and let it run out. I had the same issue, but once it leta round off while I was kneeling next to it and turning a knob on the scope it's was gone! When a gun goes off when nothing is touching it...that will scare the sh@@ right out of you!

Replaced it with a timney, $125.00 is cheaper than funeral costs.
