Long story short I re-installed the factory trigger back into my 700 as my timney is living on another rifle now. So, I got the trigger installed but the bolt stop isn't working. The safety works, when you dry fire the rifle it drops the hammer, but when you cycle the bolt nothing stops it and it pulls back out. The bolt stop also appears to have zero tension, as it just slides up and down on it's axis.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Do i need to bend the tab a certain way to make it contact? I remember having to do this with the timney when i installed it. Was really wanting to take the rifle out this weekend, but unless I can figure out the bolt stop, that's not going to happen.

ETA: I haven't adjusted the trigger in anyway. It's as is from the factory, just pulled it off and put it back on.

Hey, could be a couple of things. Pins holding the trigger are just a little bit out and you just need to tap it back in a hair or the lifter arm is out of alignment. It's an easy fix. Just jump on YouTube and search Remington 700 trigger replacement and I think it's the midway or brownells video that will show you.

I'm guessing that it's one of two things: 1) the bolt stop spring was installed incorrectly, or 2) the trigger pin was driven in too far, and is binding the bolt stop.

My guess is that the front trigger pin (circled) was driven too far and is binding the bolt stop. I would try to manipulate the stop manually with your finger (arrow) to see if it moves and resets correctly. rem700-trigger-circled.jpg

If it's not the pin, check out this thread to make sure the bolt stop spring (underneath the red arrow) is installed correctly.
