I can't seem to un-seat the firing pin head to unscrew it and remove it from the bolt assembly. After watching people do this with the lace on their boot I'm beginning to wonder if there is something wrong, it's just more resistant since it has never been removed, or if I'm just not muscling it enough/there's something I missed. Ideas?

It can be pretty damn tough to pull out to unscrew, but it will come out if you put some extra muscle into it. The boot lace way does work pretty well.

I got it finally after giving it more torque while pulling back. This thing really is a pain! Thanks for the encouragement.

Get yourself the proper tool from Midway it makes it a snap,and well worth the $20.00 price.

Definitely worth it after lacerating my hand to bits. Didn't realize how dirty it would be, the spring was literally dripping gritty black carbon buildup after maybe 500 rounds.

If you have carbon buildup inside the bolt of a Remington 700 from shooting it, you have problems.

The only way to have carbon build-up in the bolt,is if you have had a hellva lot of pierced primers.Its probably just a lot of grease and dirt tha has built up over time,clean it real good and dont use grease or oil to lube it.
