I have a one piece leupold scope mount and am temporary using my old scope which has medium rings until I can get a decent scope for it. I notice the bolt handle gets too close to the scope when its open. Has anybody else noticed this issue - I assume I will need high rings even if I get a 40mm scope just for the bolt handle clearance. Any input is appreciated.

How close is too close?

If the bolt isn't hitting the scope, you should be fine. You may just need to learn how to run the bolt.

Take a look at this video. This is a USO SN-3 mounted on a Seekins 20 MOA base with Seekins Low rings. The objective is 44mm an it just barely clears the barrel with the caps on.

Notice how I grip the bolt handle.

LineWolfUSMC - Bingo that was it. I being a FNG to this whole bolt thing tried grabbing it on both sides. The video made it very clear. Thanks a bunch.

Re: Remington 700P Ring question

No problem. We aren't born knowing this stuff.

Dry firing with dummy rounds or metal snap caps will help you develop the motion. Practice it nice and slow until the motion is perfectly smooth. When you want to go fast it will just happen without thinking about it.

Re: Remington 700P Ring question

YES, it will! A good gun smith can thread it and put it on. Several guys like them to reshape their bolts anyways to extend further out or back slightly. They can put it where it won't hit if you're happy with your scope setup.
