Ok. does anyone have a Rem 799 action in .223?
I am looking to build one up in 6X45mm. For some that dont know about the 6X45mm it a .223 rem necked up to 6mm and will move a 70gr Sierra Blitz King at 3000fps out of a 20 inch bbl.
I think this cartrage makes a steller kids rifle and a dam good all around rifle for dogs, yotes and anything else that needs killing.

So my question is. Is the tiny 799 action worth a shit? Does anyone know a smith that can blue print it. any help with this would be great I have never seen this action in person.

Thanks Pete Pi Jr.

Re: Remington 799

Weren't you looking for a cz 527? I'm wondering cause I've been thinking similarly. I was thinking about doing a 527 to a 6x45. Then it occurred to me that they make one in a 7.62x39 and this could be turned into a 6mmAR and hopefully still be mag fed. I'm still in the looking stage but if you found something out regarding the 527 I'd love to hear it.

As far as the 799, I've fingered a couple and they aren't bad little rifles. I'd take the 527 given a choice. Don't know anything about smithing either action.

Re: Remington 799

Yea I cant make-up my mind on the two actions CZ527 or Rem799. I am making 4 new factory load offerings in the 6X45mm. I am doing a 70 Blitz King at 3000, 70gr SMK at 3000 a 62gr Barnes Varmint Granade at 3100 and a 80gr Barnes Tipped Tripple shock at 2800.
I think I am going to go with the CZ 527 because it's a known action. Plus I can buy just the action for $325 from CZ. If I go Remington 799 I will have to buy a hole rifle.

Re: Remington 799

go with the CZ it is easier to get working and you have a good reliable detachable mags.

the 6X45 is an awsome cartrige and realy under rated we build one up with an 8 twist barrel and it shoots the 105 A Maxat around 2650 and makes 1000 yards aswell as a 223 with an 80gr projectile it is amasing what these little cases can actualy do.

Good luck on the project let us know how it works out.

Re: Remington 799

Will do!! Do you have a name of a smith that could do a full blue print in the CZ527?? American Precicsion Arms is my go to smith but he doesent have the fixtures to ture the action.
I agree it is very under rated but buy offering 4 different loads I am hopeing I will resurrect it.

Thanks Again Pete

Re: Remington 799

Here are the build spec for my 6X45. I am building it for me and my kids to shoot.

CZ 527 Action

Broughton 6mm 1in9 #1 contour finished at 18.0in.

XXX Bassstone wood stock with a steel skeletonized but plate and grip cap.

Talley rings and bases

Swar 3-9X36 compact Scope.

All metal parts will be old style rust blue.

I will send pic's of the rifle step buy step from start to finished. The wood is over at Dakota Arms being inletted this week.

I am a stickler for old school rifles and high end wood. As soon as I finish my 416 Rigby for Africa I will post pic's of it. It is very old school down to the orange recoil pad and quarter rib.

Did you ever find out who could do the full blue print of the CZ527?
I have plans for a future build with a CZ527 & was also curious who could blue print it.

Re: Remington 799

For the cz527 try James Calhoon. He customes the CZ rifles. A buddy of mine brought his up from Georgia and I got to shoot it. I have to say what a shooter. It was shooting right along my Savage 12 LRPV. So I came home and found one here the same night. Like new, 625 to my FFL. I will have it here Wednesday. I just picked up my Leupold 6.5 x 20 - 40 with the varmint hunter retical. It is in a .223, That is my favorite round to shoot. So I havent decided if I want to change up at all. Also Calhoon has new take off barrels for 65.00. He does everything for the CZ's.

Re: Remington 799 or CZ 527

The 799/Charles Daly/Interarms mini-mauser actions can be cleaned up and shoot quite nice. They are amazingly similar to the Sako vixen action.

Below is my custom .17 Remington I had built on a Daly action a couple years ago.

The best looking mini-mauser I've seen is here

Re: Remington 799 or CZ 527

I can't speak to any conversions but I just bought home a 527 full stock in 223. Nice little rifle with great looking wood. I put a 2-7 vortex viper that they have on clearance now and it is a handy little rifle with great lines. Should be able to get to the range with it in a couple of weeks.
