I am guessing that you didn't go to a "factory" armorers course. That sounds more like gun smithing than armorers work.
Well, the course was great in that I got personalized attention. There were only two of us, so it was a very informal setting. We were able to ask questions whenever and delve into stuff without taking up too much extra time. It's nice to be able to ask as many questions you want and not be "that guy" who prevents the rest of the class from getting out of there.
I learned quite a bit about what procedures and modifications the factory will support and what they won't. I also learned a great deal about the X-Mark trigger, 40x trigger and the old remington trigger and how they differ.
Although I brought my rifle, the only time I uncased it was for the "show and tell". All work was done on supplied triggers and actions. They had scrap actions with barrel stubs cut off at the front scope base screw.
I learned a bit and now I will have the certificate to bless me to maintain our agency owned rifles as well as being able to work on rifles at any school I host in the future. Now I need to look into a Savage armorers school. Most of the LE schools I have gone to so far are dominated by Remington with a handfull of Savage and one or two Winchesters.
