I cannot find an online reference source that lists Remington barrel contours in a table for easy comparison of dimensions. I have seen a couple, but they appear to be incomplete, as they do not include the Milspec 5R barrel.

I'm shopping for a stock to replace the HS Precision that came with the rifle, and it's not clear to me when a McMillan or other stock is described as having "the varmint contour", or whatever else.

Can anyone point me to a complete reference table for Remington barrels? Thanks.

Re: Remington Barrel Contours: Seeking Tables

^^ is correct. If you need exact dimensions, both Bartlien and Krieger (among others I'm sure) have the Rem Varmint barrel listed in their contours page with exact dimensions.

(Varmint and Sendero are the same)

Re: Remington Barrel Contours: Seeking Tables

I was (am) looking for any reference that describes the exterior dimensions of the family of Remington barrels. Twist would be a nice bonus, and probably would be included in something comprehensive. What I found did not appear to be complete, and it was in very few places on the 'net. Then again, barrel contours have bever been of interest to me until I started to shop for some stocks.

Re: Remington Barrel Contours: Seeking Tables

It would be kinda hard to make a complete list of all factory contours and dimensions? Why? Over times even though a factory still makes a certain rifle they have changed the contours slightly. Not to mention all the different models.

Take the Winchester varmint rifle. If a guy orders a barrel from us for this rifle I have to ask Pre64 style or post 64 style not to mention different versions of a win. varmint type rifle etc.....that you could lump into a varmint type class rifle.

In a Rem. sporter contour we have 4 different ones here. All factory but all vary a little bit. Same goes for the Rem. Varmint contour. I've seen factory barrels with the muzzle size as small as .825 and as large as .850. What the factory holds the tolerances to as well we all don't know.

Twists. That would be easier to make a list of. Normally and I say normally if it's a standard SAAMI cartridge spec. round it has a standard twist linked to it. An example being is .30-06. Standard Saami twist is 1-10. Standard for .308win. is 1-12. Standard for .338 Win. Mag. is 1-10. Standard for 7mm Rem. Mag. is 1-9.5 and the list can go on.

If the factory makes a limited run gun or in a caliber that is not standard saami spec. the factory could make a change and it could not be to spec. An example being is 6mmBR. When the 6mmBR first came out even though it was not a factory listed round most of the twist being made where like 1-14 but with Savage coming out with the long range guns and offering it in 6mmBR the twist on those rifles is 1-8. A 1-14 wouldn't even come close to stabilizing a 107gr. bullet.

To my knowledge there is still no standard SAAMI spec. for twist for the 6nmmBR.

Same goes for the number of grooves in the barrel. There are standards as far as SAAMI specs. go but I can give you examples of factories deviating from the standard SAAMI spec.

How do you compile a list of the standards and all of the non standards etc......
