Ok I have a custom gun build off a remington 700 long action.
I think it has a Watt mag box. Its a switch barrel rifle so a pinned lug. Right now it has a 375 RUM barrel on it. sako extractor installed in bolt.

I havent shot it yet with this barrel but my pre check after switching barrel. It not ejecting the round. It pulls it out of the chamber but just kinda stays in the gun some times. Next issue seem to some time Jam the round into the barrel when feeding from the mag? MIGHT be the flat tip bullets some how holding the round up.

Not really sure looking for ideas

Re: Remington long action not feeding rounds right ?

Was it ejecting the round with the previous barrel or is this the first barrel you've had on this. You said its a switch barrel so Im assuming there was a previous barrel.

Does it eject if you run the bolt hard? Mine also has that same problem, but if I run the bolt with a little force, it works just fine.

Re: Remington long action not feeding rounds right ?

The first barrel i was shooting super long custom rounds so i only loaded one at a time and always hand picked the round out of the actions. SO not sure how it worked. I really wish i checked that one but didnt cause it was only shot on the bench.

If i run the bolt back hard they seem to always stay in. IF i run it back little more then light it work most of the time.
If i run the bolt home hard it Jams the round and dents the case little below the shoulder. IF i run the bolt home med it works most of the time. Or it seem to work all the time if i run bolt home semi hard to a light stop/little pull back maybe 1/16 of a inch then slowly all the way home.
Which is driving me nuts if thats is how ill have to load the rounds. This is one of the rifles i had built before i heard of GAP. I just wasted to much money to rip it apart again yet.

Can a trued action be trued again if the first smith messed up?

If i take this rifle hunting i guess my back up gun will be a 10mm glock. My luck i will be eaten by a pissed off rabbit after my rifle jams

Re: Remington long action not feeding rounds right ?

What was the action made for to begin with? The feed rails could not be compatible with the rounds you are feeding. They may need to be opened up more.

Are you trying to eject fully loaded rounds? Have you tried extracting and ejecting just brass?

If the fully loaded rounds are not fully extracting and ejection this can be caused by the heaving loaded round simply banging into the inside of the receiver after clearing the chamber. The shock of the round banging into the inside of the action can cause the extractor to let go.

If this is the case then sometimes trimming the ejector spring can help but you also have to remember that a loaded magnum round is heavy and once the ejector spring is clipped it may not have enough strength to fully eject the round.

You have too many things going on for anyone to give you a definite answer. Get it back to the builder so he can check it.

Sometimes an action can be re-trued but don’t count on it. It all depends on how much metal was removed the first time.

Re: Remington long action not feeding rounds right ?

Flat nose 375's are very difficult to feed. Center feed box or just the extended box? It's a combination of rails, feed ramp and a good chamfer on the mouth of the chamber. My advice is take it back to your smith with 3 dummy rounds. Without them he has no way of knowing if it's fixed. Been there done that several times with customers.

The action was made for the 375 RUM round. Yes fully loaded rounds. Will try just brass tonight.
