Remington VS in Police Department

Re: Remington VS in Police Department

Don't know if any Dept's actually adopted the VS but am sure they were purchased by some. In mid to later 80's Remington released the 700P (P for parkerized) version of their Heavy Barrel rifle made especially for PD's. It was furnished with a plain wooden stock with no checkering, no black tip or black pistol grip cap, oil finished stock and 24" barrel. Around '90 they started selling them designated as a 700PSS(SS for synthetic stock). Mid 90ish they changed to 26" barrel and the HS stock with the palm swells.

Alot of different minor changes and suffix designations. Different metal finish, and several stock changes but still a heavy barreled 700 introduced really after the M40 made its debute in Aug of 66 and the start shortly thereafter of the "Varmint Special" rifle by Remington, their first heavy barreled variant on the 700 receiver for civilian sales. There were numerous Dept's that used and smaller ones probably still have some Varmint Specials in their inventory. HTH

Re: Remington VS in Police Department

Thank you for your kind answer. I already own a 700P and a 700 VS (and something more...

) .
I'm a Police Officer and a target shooter in Italy, and I would like to use the VS too, as I already done with the 700P (and with a lot of satisfation... ), in Military and LE competitions, but I have to demonstrate the use of this weapon by a Police Department abroad, so my question...
Thanks again

Re: Remington VS in Police Department

There is probably a short list of Remington M700 rifles that have NOT been used by some police department for sniper use. My department has a XCR Tactical Longrange, XCR Tactical Compact, and a 700P LTR. Aside from Krylon and a tweak of the factory triggers, they're in stock condition.
