Remmy 700 SPS TACTICAL 308 accuracy?? Anyone have any feedback? I have a PSS 26" barrel and it shoots great and I am looking at getting a SPS TACTICAL 308 20" barrel in a different stock (not the Hogue). I will be using a CAN on it with 175 SMK handloads. I need feedback please.
Thanks

Be prepared for factory quality from a factory rifle. Mine's in .223 but the build quality is lower than guns built for me. I do like the stock though. Whole thing is a bit wobbly however... Shoots good, no complaints.

Re: Remmy 700 SPS TACTICAL 308 accuracy??

the bolts could be smoother, but that works itself out..
good gun for the money, but your PSS is all ready very nice. the pro X-mark triggers kind of suck, but mine is the frist one with out adjustment.
i made my sps-v a tactical by cutting down the 26" to 18".
why another 308? how about a 243 or 223.

Re: Remmy 700 SPS TACTICAL 308 accuracy??

I bought one for my wife last year, dropped it into an McMillan M40A1 and added a Surefire brake / adapter. FGMM 168's, SMK 168 & Varget, and 168 AMAX & Varget worked great.

Typical answer is that they shoot great for a factory rig, zero complaints from me but as we all know Remington turns out it's fair shair of turds just like any other big maker.

I say shop around and get one for around $500 - $550, drop it into a McM / HS / AICS / Manners and get shooting. Shop the used section and get a good deal on a stock as there are plenty available.

See the linky of what she looked like.

Re: Remmy 700 SPS TACTICAL 308 accuracy??

I purchased one last month with hopes on my local range was going to open up to a 1000 yard they canned the idea so instead of letting the rifle waste away I think I will sell it unfortunetly, the SPS tactical is a sweet stock set up I hate to part with it BUT its like owning a exotic car resticted by speed limits

Bone stock, shooting Hornady 168gr Match. Later I added a B&C stock and found that she really likes 45.6gr of Varget with a 168gr SMK on top. Ends up being just a bit better, but not an overly noticable difference......

I know that it is only a 5 shot group, but I was just demonstrating what the rifle is capable of

Re: Remmy 700 SPS TACTICAL 308 accuracy??

Its a good question, im looking to get an AICS and was wondering about the Rem 700 .308 sps tact 20" myself. Its better than dragging around a heavy 26"... just hope the accuracy will be good especially in that stock.

Re: Remmy 700 SPS TACTICAL 308 accuracy??

That is my idea. I just got the SPS TACTICAL last weekend (new) and an AICS Friday. I planned to plop it in and get the barrel threaded soon and run a CAN on it. I use SMK 175's for loads and my other 2 Remmy's shoot awesome with them. I am just wondering if this (SPS-T) will shoot just as good or better in an AICS with a CAN using the same 175's from 100 yards to 800 yards. Anyone use this combo?

Re: Remmy 700 SPS TACTICAL 308 accuracy??

I just got my SPS SUPER Tactical not too long ago.. 20" wasnt short enough so i wet 18".. VERY TACTICAL!!

Anyways, its shoots .01" at 100yds... MAYBE not typical, but its the only group ive shot...I thought id quit while I was ahead... Sooooo 100% of the time, its worked every time...

Im going to be getting mine threaded as well and the results sound promising. Im wondering what kind of freebore boost (if any) will be had with the can attached. I plan to use 175s out to 1k... When I have a question about short barrels I look at rob01 posts and usually find the answer as he has answered just about any question having to do with 18"-20" barrels.
