I'm looking into getting a muzzle brake for my 300 win mag and don't want to send my barrel off to have it threaded so what are your thoughts about a removable (clamp on, no threads required) brake? I have zero experience with them and none of my friends do either.

1. Do they cause any barrel damage, long-term?

2. Do they impact accuracy?

3. What removable brake would you recommend?

4. Would you use one?

Re: Removable Brakes?

I rpobably should have been more specific. I'm referring to brakes that do not require your barrel to be threaded. Like a Roedale clamp brake. I'm wondering who uses a clamp brake and are there any regrets in going the clamp route, as opposed to threading your barrel and going with the twist on variety.

Re: Removable Brakes?

i wouldnt use a clamp on too much room for lack of repeat ability and to easy to have a strike if bent or put on and something manages to get underneath

How come you dont want to have your barrel threaded its really the only way to go.

Re: Removable Brakes?

From what i've heard round' the campfire, the Roedale brake works good but you should have a handy torque tool to keep checking the bolts on the brake after a certain number of shots to make sure the brake don't go flying off.can someone please confirm?I do know that metal changes its properties slightly due to heating up/down....
