Removable Magazine

I am gathering information for a deer rifle build that I am going to order in the near future. I have built 2 varmint rigs and I built both to be used as a single shot rifle.

I was looking at the GAP rifles, and they all have removable magazines.

I have always thought that a solid action in single shot configuration was a more accurate platform. Is that correct??

I do not necessarily need the rifle to have a magazine for a LR deer rifle. How much does the removable magazine option add to the price of a custom rifle??

I am just trying to understand the pricing differences in custom rifles. I realize some smiths are better than others. However a 1/2" guarantee is the same from any smith?? Is it not??

I am not trying to start an argument, I am just wanting to get a fantasitc rifle, and get as much for my dollar as I can?? Thanks, Tom.

Nope. Some smiths measure differently.

I've had one fairly famous shop explain to me that their idea of 1/4 MOA was the maximum difference from POA to POI, rather than the extreme spread (center to center) of the final group. I could have a shot go 1/4 MOA right and the next 1/4 MOA left, yielding 1/2 MOA extreme spread and still satisfy their definition of 1/4 MOA.

Find a smith that you know can deliver the rifle you want/expect and forget about the MOA guarantee.

GAP will build with or without a DBM.... If it's a 700 action though a DBM does not effect rigidity of the action as it's designed for bottom feeding anyway... I concur on the lack of need for one on a deer rig, but I'd want better BM than Remington offers anyway. You can expect the Badger M5 DBM to add about $350 for the hardware, and I'd expect you'd be having it bedded anyway making the install cost irrelevant... If you choose to go with BDL styled bottom metal I'd go with Badger's BDL BM, or other quality steel...the cast aluminum stuff is just to prone to breaking for me. Good luck! Stiff, single shot actions are considered the most accurate....but we are talking about minute differences that only benchrest shooters will even be able to measure. This is an irrelevant subject for a deer rifle, isn't it? Is .02MOA important to your deer rifle? I would think weight, length and many other factors would be more important. If you like single-shot models, I doubt you will be impressed with a detachable magazine. I'd look at an ADL as something you might find acceptable.
