Removable mags causing POI shifts?

At a recent tactical match a friend experienced large POI shifts when inserting full mags into his Savage Model 10. The rifle had been recently converted to accept removable mags with a new bottom metal kit. The mags were of high quality and not really the issue, apparently the increased pressure from the mag spring on the bottom of the bolt was the problem. As the mag was emptied, the POI would move back to the original zero. The blind magazine spring was considerably weaker than the detachable mag spring uncompressed, and of course when the mag was full, the pressure was even greater. Keep in mind that the Savage uses a floating bolt head, this may not happen to rifles with a one piece bolt. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Re: Removable mags causing POI shifts?

I've read about this in relation to M14s/M1As. Somewhere/sometime/somebody quoted a piece from a Marine Corps manual on match M14's about picking 6 magazines (after testing to confirm none of the 6 affected POI) and sticking with those magazines.

Apparently some magazines affect some rifles.
