Gunsmithing Removing engraving/type?

I would like to remove the stupid "please read our instruction manual befor using a firearm" from the barrel of my otherwise beautiful GP-100 Revolver.

Is there a way of doing it decently well? I could have access to a full machine shop for this, but hand/power tools are easier and at my house.

file... blend the edges, blend the radius... it's an art

Maybe I'll have to find some form of scrap that hace engraving on it to practice on befor I go at the nice gun.
