I just acquired a scope that is partially painted. Anyone have experience removing paint from their scopes? I'm looking for the safest method possible as I dont want to damage the original surface or the seals...thanks

+1 to the above mentioned solvents. An old nylon-bristled toothbrush can help when applying.

Be careful with solvents. Some of them, such as acetone, can melt certain types of plastic.

Do your brain and lungs a favor: wear a respirator.

try white spirit first, because it's the least aggressive, applied whith the finest, and I say FINEST,steel wool, and keep acetone as last chance, because is the most aggressive_keep at hand some petroleum to stop any unwanted excessive removing action_

Re: Removing Paint From Scope

Any of the methods will work but if you have to use anything like steel wool to help you try using grey scotchbrite first. I use it all the time on cars and when I'm done doing what ever I might need it for the scatchs are so fine and light that I can buff them out with ease. You can pick up the grey scotch bright for any autobody suply place. Also one thing that will help is wipe just a bit of whatever your going to use on the paint and then cover it with plastic wrap for just a min and only a minute. But all of these methods should work just as long as they didn't scuff the surface before they painted it.

Ha.. Thanks Scott.. I am going to be extremely careful and just take my time. I don't care if it takes me all day. Thanks again for the quick shipping. Awesome service.

Brake cleaner and a little elbow grease. I just removed krylon from my scope this morning in about half an hour. Spray it on a rag and rub it off, use a brush for the tough to reach spots.

*ALWAYS* test the magic eraser on an inconspicuous spot first. They're much more abrasive than they look.
