I have a detachable YHM can on my LWRC 6.8 SPC. After my last range with the Rem 700 I removed the YHM and screwed it on my LWRC. For some reason I can not unscrew it now. Any suggestions?

    Re: Removing YHM can

I don't have experience with that can, but, in general, unless the threading actually got buggered (as in you cranked it on against its will), you would probably have success with heating the can where it threads on. This will expand the can, while leaving the barrel relatively cool, thereby loosening the connection. You can try a simple hair dryer. If that doesn't work you can go to a torch.

Obviously make sure the gun is unloaded, etc. before getting into it. You are, after all, dealing with the business end!

I already called them, they were surprised that it would not come off. That was all the support they gave. I'll try to heat it up and if that does not work I will drop it off at our dept. amour. Thanks again.

    Re: Removing YHM can

I had the same problem with mine. The problem is not the threads. The problem is that if you screw it down so tight that it completely compresses the spring, it makes it very difficult for the ratchet tooth on the coupler to jump over the spline.

I only had this problem on 1 out of the 3 couplers I have. What I had to do to get mine off was to remove the coupler and can as a unit, put the coupler in a machinist vise, holding on the flats and use a strap wrench to remove the suppressor.

To fix the problem, I took a small stone and slightly rounded the 4 tips on the coupler.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Removing YHM can

    good advice from Trilogymac
I have 5 of these cans. some mounts are a little more stiff then others.
I keep them lubed up with anti seize gel as well.

you could take the mount and can off as a unit. if you have a vise lock the mount into the vise and take a strap wrench around the bottom of the can. Then (making sure your going the right way) start to slowly turn adding more and more force as you go, it should pop loose.

Not recommended, get it hot enough the oil burns off then you could be screwed. Use high temp anti seize.
