As I'm shooting more, I'm starting to consider that having some replacement parts on hand would be useful, rather than ordering them when needed.

I've learned the hard way to have detent pins and springs, and I figured I should probably order an extra firing pin for my AR15.

What else would be handy to have as a backup?

Agree with Kirk R ^ ^ ^ regarding parts. The extent is how much you want to spend.

In our department's 40 + patrol rifles, I have only seen three failures due to parts:
o worn gas rings (old rifle)
o broken gas key screw (old rifle)
o broken FP (relatively new BM)
The first two, I consider "normal wear & tear maintenance items".

Personally, I keep a couple FP retaining key/pins in my range/field bag. This is NOT a cotter pin. Though I've never lost one, had a friend drop one in grass when cleaning the bolt. These are a little tough to find in the grass.

In my armorer's kit, I keep: gas rings, extractor, FP, FP retainer keys, all small parts for lower, and a complete bolt/carrier assembly and trigger assembly.

Overkill, possibly . . . but I don't want my AR down for long.

Re: Repair Kits

I keep an extra firing pin in my tiny tool kit for my DPMS 308, and have lower parts kit in the safe. (have only had bolt hold open piece brake) - knock on wood

i have an extra original R700 trigger pack & firing pin/spring
(have seen a R700 pin tip brake at a match)

Shit Happens- Ya never know?
