I just replaced the extractor on a Remington 700 in .223. Its the new style without the rivet. Now rounds are extremely difficult to chamber. I tried a few spent cases from this rifle and it take considerable effort to get the bolt to close. When I extract the rounds, there is damage to the lip of the case.

Does anyone know what I should do from here? Thanks.

Does it have any spring to it? I mean, if you push on the extractor "tooth", does is recess into its groove? Is it taking a bite out of the case rim upon chambering? Could be a couple things, but it should be moving out of the way to get around the rim.

make sure that only the "claw" part of the extractor is visible when looking downward onto the bolt face. it is possible to have the extractor bent in such a way that the circular outer body of the extractor can hit the case rim when closing the bolt. the outer body should not stick out from underneath the bolt nose recess

I got the extractor from midway. Only place I could find the .223 extractor. It did not move when I pressed on it like it should. I ended up taking it out and ordered another to try again.
