Reprofiling Knife Company

Have you checked with the makers?

It really isn’t a difficult DIY job, especially if you use one of the many gadgets available to control angle. Worksharp gets good reviews. TORMEK is pro-level gear and prices accordingly. I use a belt sander.

Yeah I reprofiled one of mine on a worksharp but gassed the diamond cut stone in the process and spent a few hours at it.

I reached out to the manufacturer and they didn’t sound too confident, saying “we can certainly try our best to accommodate that”… didn’t give me the warm and fuzzies

Wow. That is a surprise. Was is the power driven worksharp or the manual version?

You might check with your local machine shops. A guy with a surface grinder could make short work of it.

A powered wet stone isn’t too expensive, especially if you have a couple few good knives to do. Here’s the first one that popped up in a search:

As I understand it, power tools may generate too much heat in the edge, especially if you’re trying to reprofile, which can ruin the heat treat. Before I bought my KME system, I sent a few knives to Paul at Apostle P knife sharpening and he did a great job. If he can’t reprofile it, I’m sure he can recommend someone who can.
I can’t paste the FB link for some reason but you can google it.

Look in 'Blade' magazine for a local knifemaker. Should be simple with the right tools.
If it's a custom knife, the maker could do it. If it's a high-end production knife, the manufacturer should be able to do it. If it's neither, buy a good one. . .
