requesting help. case stuck in resizing die..

Re: requesting help. case stuck in resizing die..

Unscrew the decapping stem and remove it, the expander will stay in the case.

Lock the die in a vice and drill and tap the case to 1/4-20 through the primer pocket.

Find a socket or some washers that will fit over the case and rest on the bottom of the die. You want it to set about 1/2" higher than the bottom of the stuck case.

Thread a 1/4-20 bolt through the socket/washers into the hole you tapped in the case until it bottoms out.

Turn the bolt with a wrench or pliars until the case pulls free.
Cut the case open with a dremel to retrieve your expander and decapping pin.

Or just buy an RCBS stuck case remover

Re: requesting help. case stuck in resizing die..

i have a sportsmans warehouse a few blocks from me. I am headed that direction tomorrow soi will probably get the case remover

probably a wise invesment as i am new to reloading and i am having this issue already.

Thanks!

Re: requesting help. case stuck in resizing die..

Dont waste your money, the socket trick works great and you could be back in business today. Plus you fixed it your self.

Re: requesting help. case stuck in resizing die..

You can also unscrew the spindle lock nut and the spindle bushing. Place a thick washer over the spindle on top of the die.
Buy a nut with the same thread pitch as the spindle and use a wrench to keep tightening the nut until you get the expander ball and spindle out.
Then use a punch, dowel or anything just smaller than your case mouth to tap the case out from the top down.

I looked at the Forster stuck case remover kit and realized that I had everything I needed in my shop to do it. Here's a link to give you an idea

I'm guessing One Shot ?

Re: requesting help. case stuck in resizing die..

Use a case lube made with Lanolin.Dillon makes a spray lube from Lanolin .It is the best stuff and you wont stick cases .When i form cases from one chambering to another some of the cases jump out of the die when pressure is removed . Arnie

Re: requesting help. case stuck in resizing die..

"i DID use case lube"

Cases get stuck for ONE reason; improper lubing. Either the wrong kind of lube, or not enough or not properly applied.

Re: requesting help. case stuck in resizing die..

At the risk of being simplistic, if the case seems too hard, don't force it... Take it out and apply some more lube or Imperial sizing wax. If you use the spray lube, with lanolin, be sure and let the alcohol dry out of it before you start sizing. Just my $.02. You can't think of a way to screw up I haven't already tried.

Re: requesting help. case stuck in resizing die..

There should be a tiny hole on the die body to let excessive air and case lube escape the die body when the brass is being forced up, make sure it is not obstructed. Judging by where the locking nut is I'd say its obstructed. Remove the decapping pin and drill and tap the primer pocket with a quarter twenty tap like stated above. You really don't need a stuck case remover unless your planning on making a habit of it...

AND

Pass on the stuck case remover ..doesnt do that great of a job.
.
PS: I like lyman's case pad lube, does a nice job and you dont have to fight to get it out like the rcbs.

Re: requesting help. case stuck in resizing die..

I have been using Imperial Sizing Wax for years and have never stuck a case. I would highly recommend you pick some up and give it a try as it is dirt cheap and a small tin should last you a VERY long time. Remember though - just put a very small amount on the case (as thin as you can, just to get thorough coverage).

Not everyone. I use it and have never had a stuck case. Proper use is the key.

"I don't see how i did something wrong.. "

You need to get a stuck case remover kit, you'll be needing it again.
