Re: Restrepo

Great movie. It came on NatGeo a few weeks back. You might be able to catch it there.

Re: Restrepo

My good friend was back in from Afghanistan for emergency leave after his mother passed. We spoke of Restrepo and he advised that a new documentary "Charkh Tank" (IIRC) should be forthcoming, and will be as insightful as Restrepo.

By C.J. CHIVERS
(New York Times) -- BENGHAZI, Libya — Tim Hetherington, the
Oscar-nominated film director and conflict photographer who
produced the film “Restrepo,” was killed in the besieged city of
Misurata on Wednesday, and three photographers working beside him
were wounded.
The wounds to two of the photographers — Chris Hondros and
Guy Martin — were grave, according to a colleague at the triage
center where they were being treated Wednesday night. Their
prospects for survival were not immediately clear.
Mr. Hondros, an American working for the Getty photo agency,
suffered a severe brain injury and was in extremely critical
condition, according to a colleague who was with at the triage
center. He had been revived and was clinging to life in the
evening, the colleague said.
Mr. Martin, a British citizen working for the Panos photo
agency, had shrapnel wounds and was undergoing vascular surgery
Wednesday night, according to the same account. He was in surgery
Wednesday night.
The fourth photographer, Michael Christopher Brown, suffered
shrapnel injuries but his life was not in danger.
Misurata, Libya’s third largest city, has been cut off by
land from the rest of Libya by military forces loyal to Col.
Muammar el-Qaddafi. It has been the scene of intensive,
close-quarters fighting for weeks. Hundreds of Libyans have been
confirmed killed.
The photographers had reached the city’s port on a sea
voyage from Benghazi, the rebel capital. The early reports said
they had been working together near the front lines when they
were struck by a rocket-propelled grenade.

Re: Restrepo

Very sad news. I've got his book "Infidel", which is a photo tribute to the men in the movie Restrepo

Re: Restrepo

ive watched it several times. without documentaries like this, people like myself would never be able to grasp what is really going on in the sandbox. a MUST watch.

Re: Restrepo

Just to update what TJ posted earlier, Chris Hondros also passed away from his injuries sustained in the RPG attack.

RIP fellowes.

Re: Restrepo

That movie/documentary was a real eye opener for me (as a civvie) - have recommended it to all I know.

Re: Restrepo

Yes, great documentary! For some it is hard to watch. Can bring back some emotions, I myself could only watch some of it.

Re: Restrepo

They also recently added Armadillo on Netflix. I liked Restrepo better probably because I didnt have to read subtitles but they are both awesome movies.

Re: Restrepo

It's one of the best out there, agreed. If you like it take a look at Baker Boys, Gunner Palace, and Armadillo. Not all as good and Gunner Palace is old and in Iraq, but all well worth the time.

Re: Restrepo

Restrepo!
What was the point of all of it?
The camp was abandoned and it was all in vain?
And all the lives lost?

The point is not the purpose, it;s all about the soldiers.
