Re: Reticle Picture Request - Sightron 1-7x24
that "really bad picture at the shot show" wouldn't be the one by BigJimFish on his "the variable, low power multipurpose scope review" thread on ar15.com,..would it? LOL.
of all the reviews his given, and there're tons of them, that particular one is probably the least enthusiastic, least "fair shake" review that he has given thus far. in fact,he begins by stating that he has little experience with sightron and goes on to mention how long it is and even makes a completely wrong assumption, that when people say "looking through a straw" they are referring to the FOV. in fact, most of the time when people say that, they are referring to a really small exit pupil at 1x,which is funny because i called sightron and they told me the EP at 1x is 13mm,which is larger than the swfa ss 1-6 and definately larger than the leupold vx-6 1-6. it's EP at 1x is even larger than BigJimFish's favorite GRSC 1-6,which is given at 12mm but he measured it at 11.2mm.
as far as the FOV,i think the specs given seem pretty normal for a 1-7,not to mention that at 1x your using both eyes open(massive FOV anyway),..at 6x it's probably comparable to other 1-6 scopes. he may have had the sightron set at 7x and noticed it's fov looked smaller than the GRSC at 6x,i don't know, but again, the FOV specs given look normal to me for a 1-7.
he also doesn't say at what illumination power the pictures are in. the fact that he doesn't show the green illumination, tells me he didn't really "play" with it all that much.
still,i appreciate his review very much because it's the only one out there so far,..but more info and reviews are needed.
still,i will tell you that sightron told me that the illumination was not designed to be bright-daylight-visible but that besides the etched german #4(which many find very good for CQB,like on the trijicon accuponts),it also has an etched black 10.5 moa dot in the center, which can only help make it even faster at 1x for up close.
look for BigJimFish's review of the leupold vx-6 1-6 here on the hide. i really think he was very unbiased on that one and going from that particularly good review,i honestly think i would find the sightron "faster" for up close than the leupy, even though the leupy has a true bright-daylight-visible dot.
i hope this helps some but, sorry,i don't have a picture of the reticle. i will say though, that the german #4 in this sightron looks like a standard #4 and not a modified one(except for the 10.5 moa dot in the center). in other words, the outer post look to me like standard thickness(unlike the trijicon #4 for example, which seems to have a thicker than standard outer posts) and the center cross-hair also looks standard.
when i first saw the specs for this 1-7 on sightrons website,i took out my calculator and in about two minutes i had already worked out ranging at 6x(yes,i said 6x,it's easy) for a known average height, what zero to use with my known hold-overs,etc.. i actually prefer quick and dirty for a low variable scope. i like finer, more specialized reticles for higher power scopes.
