Kind of in a hurry, and some of you may have seen this video, I believe from 2015?

Anyhow, a WWII sniper, Ted gundy, was invited to Ft. Benning to the Sniper School. In any case, he was presented with a 1903 A4. The interesting thing to me is that the AMU snipers (both wearing Ranger combat patches) let him shoot the M2010 with a Schmidt and Bender scope on it. I knew some SOC units had access to them, but I would think if that scope was at the school, it might also be being fielded by Army troops?



WTF...I gotta figure out how to use computers some day...

Anyhow, at 12:58 he is seen shooting the M2010 with a Schmidt & Bender on it. Shortly after he is presented with a 1903A4 by Val Forgett.

Yes they did! Funny to think how even 10 years ago the general consensus was anything out to 1k was low probability. We now have much better averages because we look back to guys like him who really pushed the envelope. I think he said somewhere in there that his average shot was around 400 something? Yet there were snipers from Russia, USA, Germany who all ranged out to 1200-1500 yds. The Brits with their No. 4 T's getting out there too.

Yet, those were isolated incidents and the range was pushed back as though the rest of Army should still be able to keep up. Shooting that far was frowned on is what I mean. Not that you shouldn't take shorter shots, but for sure, you should make your best attempt at the long range shots too.

That's Robbie Johnson's short action AMU match rifle. It's not a M2010.

I believe I remember seeing video of Robbie using it to win the Int. Sniper Comp one year.

HA! I totally missed the fact it was a short action. I went back and looked and sure enough it's a short action, not a long, like an M2010. What cartridge is it chambered in?

With better and better bullets all the time, that is getting to be a better and better round!

I had a really nice CZ-3 in .300 WSM (built by Montana Rifle Co.) and it shot lights out. It needed some improvements to be a more consistent 1K rifle but it could still get there pretty good. The improvements I'm talking about are heavier barrel and brake. I bedded the action and that improved accuracy some. 'Course, it never saw continuous rain in the field, mixed with sunshine, just to see how much the stock would bend. The trigger was typical Win 70. With polishing and lubrication, I got it pretty light and consistent.

300WSM is a great round with up to 210r bullets. Once good brass (shit, any brass) is available I think its going to be more popular. I look at it like a modern 30-06. A other round the current crop of heavier 30 cal bullets can give new life.

Yeah, It's pretty much like a 30-06...with a little extra. Not near as much as a jolt like a .300 WM, And, just a smidge more kick than a 30-06. But, propels heavy bullets 200 fps faster.
Fast enough to get them moving to where they are competitive "drop-wise" with the lighter faster bullets. and certainly heavy enough that wind doesn't kick 'em around much.
