Not a bad baseball commentator either. He was always fun to meet and talk baseball with, and he donated tons of his time to baseball camps as often as he could.
Still cool after all these years to see him save that flag!!!

Yep! I'm just glad for him that it didn't ignite a split second before he grabbed it. If it was as soaked in lighter fluid as he says it was- It would have been a bad day for him.

Thanks for that link. I haven't seen that in years. I called over Mrs Q and our girls to watch it too. Rick Monday was unfortunate enough to play for the Cubbies when they were in the doldrums but he was a solid player and his act that day struck a blow against assholes, one that should be emulated by us all. That he went to play for the great Dodger teams of the late '70's was to ther mutual benefit!
Monday was a "productive" player for many years. As one who would have given his left nut to be half as good as Rick Monday, I am glad to see him remembered for any of his accomplishments on the field.
