Decent movie. It was worth the price of admission on entertainment value. I'm not an English history guy so I don't know how accurate the story is. I'm pretty sure the script was based on various ballads that were passed down from the 12th century. All in all, not a bad movie.

Re: Ridley Scott's Robin Hood

So here's how I break down the Robin Hood movies:

1. Errol Flynn's: A classic and significant for its day. Pretty cheesy by today's standards. I remember arrows coming down from nowhere in castles and I thought to myself, "No way that happened." But good nonetheless.

2. Disney's: A must-see for kids. Every household should have it.

3. Kevin Costner: I grew up watching it. Thought it rocked when I was younger, but having watched it recently, Morgan Freeman made the movie. Costner isn't a great actor, IMO. Entertaining movie, but doesn't compare to...

4. Ridley Scott's: Better historically, more adult in its scope, but lacked the feel good ending the other movies give the audience. This movie is more for adults than kids, and challenges Western audiences ever-present yearning for a happy ending.

Overall, I guess I favor the new one if my buddies and I are going to drink a beer and watch a movie. I'll go with the Disney if I'm downing a Coke and babysitting my niece.

I am not either, but for what I learned on History Channel yesterday, Robin Hood is not really "history", but more "myth" or popular legend.

Re: Ridley Scott's Robin Hood

I thought it was a great movie....with alot better filming than the Costner version. Far more real world grit than any other version. Considering the actual way of life for the time period....you had to take any chance at making a better life. And very intersting stuff as far as the style of warfare for the period...but I love the History Channel also!!

I think that it will be a second movie show...which I could do without but still a good story baseline. And it was good to see different charcters in different light....instead of being all bad some had good qualities.

Well worth the fee and I will certinaly buy it when it comes out.

Re: Ridley Scott's Robin Hood

The whole genre of Robin Hood is mythological, based on a melange consisting of many bits of medieval (and considerably later) folklore about many characters. None of the many versions of what we call the 'true story' have any more basis in fact than any others.

One of the history/discovery channels did a fairly deep introspective of the Ridley Scott Robin Hood in light of historical fact an legend this past week. Informative, interesting, and inconclusive, IMHO. Which is exactly what I'd want it to be.

Maybe it's not 'real', but then, neither are any of the others.

When I see it, I'll be judgemental only of the skills of the actors and crew as storytellers, and not of any 'historical verity'.

Big +1. Rickman makes a great Sheriff of Nottingham. Spoiler alert: the SoN plays a far smaller role in this movie. The political intrigue happens more at the regional and national levels.

Re: Ridley Scott's Robin Hood

I just wish they would make a Robin Hood where he gave back the confiscatory taxes back to the middle class and entreprenuers. Robin Hood didn't take from the rich to give to the poor, he gave money back to the people who earned it in the first place.

That, some sword play, gruesome long bow shots and some hot maidens would make a great movie.

Re: Ridley Scott's Robin Hood

just got back from it, it was good, no gladiatior but a good flick from him non the less. i was expecting more bow stuff, i give it a thumbs up.

Re: Ridley Scott's Robin Hood

I saw it last night and think it is worth the price of admission.

As a side note...I am really getting tired of 95 lb women in nearly every movie fighting toe to toe with fighting shape men. Losers, Kick Ass, and Robin Hood to name the three last movies. I forgot about Scarlett J in Iron Man 2 whole squad of men had no chance. Any Angelina Jolie movie etc.

Sure Lalia Ali could take me out I am sure, but put her in there with lightweight male another story for example.
