Movie Theater The superior Dune thread (not Bender's thread for poors and vagrants)

Poor bender, not even here to defend himself! Low blows!
I hate being one of those people appear to be high and mighty about reading the books over the movie, but if you want to get really deep into Dune, read the books.
I really liked both movies and though the latest was excellent. But I think I like them because I went full tilt in college and read the 6 book series. In hindsight, you probably dont need to read much past Dune Messiah as things become really confusing in Children of Dune. I ended up taking notes on a yellow legal pad just to be able to make through as I kept having to go back.
Dune.

Children of Dune.
God Emperor of Dune.
Heretics of Dune.

i read the first 3 when i was a kid. prolly read dune at least twice...and yes the detail in the book is impossible to translate to the screen.
we rented dune last night but i only caught parts of it. i didn't realize it was only the beginning of the first book.
how many movies will there be?
i was curious how they would handle gom jabbar, and i thought that was sort of weak in the movie, and they left out key details imho.
If I remember right from the in the books Jessica made a much bigger deal in preparing Paul for the Gom Jabbar. Seemed more of just a passing scene in the movie.
and that the tester was thinking to herself (in the book) that no bene gesserit had endured the pain for that long...
Not sure if many here are Iron Maiden fans. They have a song called "To Tame A Land". Awesome song from an awesome band.

the 1984 movie was pretty good, besides the fact that a 20Y old was playing a sixteen year old. And the visual effects were lacking in a few places, but sets, cinematography, mood, actors, all that stuff was good.
The new movie is promising, they are doing it justice by breaking it up into three movies, this is how it should be done.
If Disney gets it's hands on this in twenty years they will fuck it up just like all the Star Wars stuff. There will be a ride at Disney World where you ride a lame ass roller coster through a worms asshole.
